Drawing for hire

This is an example of drawing for commission. The client asked for a drawing of a character from a popular movie. He sent me web links of movie clips to use as reference. First I draw from the movie to get familiar with the character, just rough sketches copied right from the scenes using the magic of freeze frame.

I always enjoy your posts. And learning a thing or two about drawing too.

Hey Jim, can I get your opinion on some caricatures I just posted? I'd really appreciate your feedback.

Matt: I tried to comment on your blog but it wouldn't take. What am I doing wrong? You caricature drawings are nice - the resemblance needs work. For Bronson his skin should look like someone is pulling it back from behind. The nose is round and short , the eyebrows are sparse and the upper lip is wide and thick with a small round opening in the middle. Look at photos from different angles and lighting. Make the face before drawing it.

Hey Jim, thanks for the tips! Not sure why the comment didn't take. Anyway, posted a revision of Bronson done over the old drawing but using a shot from one of the Death Wish flicks for reference while revising. Thanks again!
