Development secret stuff


This here piece is from the big Viking pitch art, sketch by John K.and finish marker rending by Jim Smith, 2008.

Very cool. I get this feeling that you were inspired by the Asterix artist, Albert Uderzo. I would have loved to have seen this cartoon made.

Maybe but not on purpose. I was thinking Tytla, Wood and maybe Frazetta, but thanks for that.

So do you actually color on top of John's sketch or do you completely render a new drawing with marker based on something?

Also, what are your fave markers to use?

John did a thumbnail and I made a drawing from that. My favorite markers are Chartpak - big fat juicy ones can do painting effects on animation paper. Blending is good on paper too but tricky. I hope to do a chapter in my book about markers.
