Hi Jim I've just finished my own cartoon. It last just one minute, but it has a lot of work. Hope you like it. I've shown it to John K and Auntie Eddie (yes, Fitzy, who else? hehe). Well, it's right here. www.carlocartun.blogspot.com Leave any comment, or give me all the advices you want. I'll really appreciate it
Weirdo, my main influences were always Kirby and Frazetta. Lately I've been getting into Crawford, Blair and other children's book artists. Josh, glad you like it. I sent along the preliminary sketches also.
I love the Wood man. It took me a while to catch up on that but now I marvel at the sheer virtuosity of the man. My friend Nick Cuti worked with Wally and always said what a genius he was. My head was so far up Kirby and Frazetta's asses I couldn't see much else. Tex Avery and Chuck Jones had my lips on their asses too.
Jack Davis is anther great from the EC bunch. There are some animated TV commercials from the 80s? with Davis designs. Check out Bernie Kriegstein. He does any style and can paint like Golly Bob Howdy! Billy be jiggers!
I just discovered Wally Wood was born in Menahga, MN - that's not far from me!
On a semi-related note Jim, I also found out Lubbock, TX and Fargo, ND (my nearest city) are in a flapjack war! Check it out here! It's been in the news nonstop around here.
Linden, I don't really know, but John K. was dealing with the suits so he has a better idea on that. I was so burnt by then I didn't want to know. My guess is the same as on Ren & Stimpy - corporate indifference and animosity towards the creative side, which is rampant.

Excellent artwork. What were some of the specific influences for Ripping Friends? Any specific artist?
Yes sir that's me! I'm jealous of myself...
Come on folks, Jim deserves your money!

I'll be the envy of the town.
I also see a lot of Wally Wood in some of the drawings you posted. Do you?

What do you think of Jack Davis? I love his work at EC Comics.

Trevour, that's an interesting bit of news. Of all the things to have war over. I'm sure it's all in good fun.
Darn and damn the postal system. I want this on my wall!
oh that is another wonderous drawing from the mind of Jim Smith.
Thanks cousin Vincent. Sorry we missed you at the Annies, Heard you were in London.
Jim, have you seen my post on Jack Davis? I'd like to hear what you think of it.
I never really read into it. But why were the Ripping Friends taken off the Saturday morning block of cartoons on Fox?
