Muscle-y Men

Another great yard sale/flea market find. This mag. is from 1952. I think John K. found this a few years back.

Earl

Just a quick for anyone who gives a ... Check out "My Name is Earl" on NBC Thurs. Jamie Pressley is an animators dream Her facial expressions and acting are dee-light-ful. Second only to Alicia Silverstone in Clueless. I shit you not .. or not you shit ...or... Just freeze-frame the biatch. I gotta go give birth to male hernia. I think I'll name it after my dad.

temporary delight

A picture for you until I get more Jack

Joe Orlando

Joe Orlando was everywhere but here he is working with Sergio and it looks like nothing else.

Arthur Szyk

Now you tell me - was this guy way out there?

Dave Berg

Berg's Lighter Side was great but this stuff blows it away. I shit you not.

Kelly Freas

Aside from Kurtzman and Wolverton this cover is the coolest cover ever. Kelly Freas was a regular Mad guy. Discuss.

Wally Wood

Some of the Woodmeister"s best. This guy's good. I know someone that knew him once.

Kirby/Bell

More genius from the King. Floating heads are a lost technique. We wanted to get this into the Ripping Friends but time ran out.

Woodbridge

These are George Woodbridge drawings from Mad 1961. His later stuff didn't tickle my fancy the way these do.

Kirby/Bell

Back in '67 or so I was a dedicated Joe Sinnott fan as Kirby inkers go. George Bell's work looked too rough to me. Looking at it now I think his inking is perfect for Jack. Raw and faithful yet he had a definite style. There is a delicate balance of the beautiful and the grotesque. Hey, that's a good name for a sketchbook.

More Caricatamanucures

Some more scary heads to ogle. Goering is almost as scary as Arnold.

Steve Mc Queen

I was sorting out drawings and found some old stuff. My favorite McQueen movie - "Hell is for Heroes". He plays a real psycho-killer in WWII. Always saying "I'll Blow your head off!" and cool stuff like that.\

Ralph

The best movie DVD commentary I ever heard was Ralph Bakshi on "Wizards" He goes into a wonderful tour of the animation business and how he became a director and the state of animation. Truly a gem that is yet to be discovered or I am way behind the curve.

Frazetta's doppelganger

When I first saw Frazetta and then Jeff Jones or maybe vice versa they stuck in my head seriously before I was onto Kirby and them. My dad owned a copy of Rogue Roman a paperback novel from the '60s. The cover was Frazetta and all the figures looked totally convincing, with luscious breasts, tan lines, veins and such. Dad kept the book under his mattress and never knew I was rubbing it against myself. Or maybe he did.

Jeff Jones

This guy... now he could hold his own with Frazetta. Quieter, more ethereal yet skillfully rendered. Come to think of it we all prefer to hold our own.

More Frazetta

For all ye non-believers.

Frazetta PS

One more thing: This image of the Spider killer has haunted me since 1973. the only thing that really scares me (besides women and the police) is a poisonous spider.

Frazetta

On the Eighth Day God created Frank Frazetta. Aside from a few middle aged male Caucasians, there aren't many Frazetta fans out there, which is a shame. What gets me is all the girls who love Boris but hate Frazetta. Now Boris can paint circles around me, but Frazetta has that rare combination of beauty and repulsiveness. Boris is a fantastic renderer though the subjects are puzzling. Maybe it's just age affecting my brain. ( Or I could be right.) Discuss.

David P. Smith corner

Words to live by from David Smith in Houston Texas: "He who laughs last is the last one to get the joke." Tune in next week and Dave will say: "You can crap in one hand and wish in the other to see which hand fills up faster."

To kali, Jim says "Hey." Thanks for your perceptive observations. The vagina is Mike's and the tongue is John K.s. Just kidding Mike. Nice eyewear on your icon. To ryan, Thank you for the kind words. That set-up was drawn a million times - I just stumbled across that one recently. The rest are here somewhere.

Late Pussy response

To Katzenjammer folks on the pussy hunt question (sorry for the tardiness): We storyboarded the whole thing on paper but didn't get a chance to post it all. I forgot just where it stopped. Thanks, from Jim
